Scotland's Public Service Union
UNISON represents around 150,000 members
delivering public services in Scotland - around 1.3 million UK wide.
Members are allocated to local branches.
This Branch covers Local Government members working
for East Renfrewshire Council and members in the voluntary sector
within the authority.
UNISON is a lay led union organised from the roots up
(meaning you, the member). This means that unless lay members take a
more responsible role within the organisation it won’t work for them as
individuals or as a group. Locally the Branch are all lay members and
the more activists involved in any particular department the better that
department’s views are represented.
Single Status
This
Branch to date has achieved the best overall results in Scotland with 7%
of our members being in detriment. We know this is not good enough and
we as a Branch recommended rejection of the offer at the ballot.
However East Renfrewshire membership voted on a 2 to 1 ratio to accept.
We are
however still working hard behind the scenes to address the needs of the
‘forgotten’ 7% which is now down to 5% and falling. We are unable to
promise anything as management are drip-feeding concessions and promises
but are not putting pen to paper.
Please
remember that in a lay led union, you (the members) lead, we support,
and most importantly we are all at the mercy of democratic decisions.
